Pu - Plutonium - periodic table of the elements

Plutonium was discovered, secretly, in 1940 by Glenn Seaborg with Wahl and Kennedy at UC Berkeley and publicly reported in 1946. Plutonium was extracted from uranium ore in 1947. The major use of plutonium has been for nuclear weapons. It is also used in the production of nuclear power, which is extremely dangerous and controversial, and could have catastrophic concequences (like 3-Mile Island and Chernobyl).
