Element 112 - periodic table of the elements

A single atom of element 112 was created and confirmed by the team lead by Peter Armbruster and Sigurd Hofman at Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung, the Heavy-Ion Research Center in Darmstadt, Germany in 1996. The element was created by bombarding lead foil with highly ionized zinc atoms. The atom detected decayed after 280 microseconds, losing an alpha particle to form element 110. The stability of this element is an important confirmation of the nuclear shell theory.
